Type Of Funeral
The Funeral Service
Planning a funeral for a loved one can be a difficult and upsetting time and there are many personal decisions to make. We aim to help you with the funeral of your choice to suit your family requirements whether a full church service, burial, cremation or one of the non-religious options.
Burials
Most cemeteries within the Scottish Borders are operated and maintained by Scottish Borders Council. We will attend to all communication and paperwork, whether an existing grave is being opened or a new grave being purchased. The Funeral Director will direct proceedings on the day, in the cemetery.
Woodland Burials
Due to the increase in demand there are two burial sites in the Scottish Borders, one within Shawfield Cemetery, Selkirk and one at Hundy Mundy Wood, just outside Kelso, near Mellerstain. They are quite different from a cemetery where there are no traditional memorials or headstones to mark graves. We would recommend a client to visit the sites prior to making this decision.
Cremations
Borders Crematorium, Melrose sits in the shadow of the Eildon Hills and offers a local choice for the communities of the Scottish Borders and beyond. It has a seating capacity for 100 people with additional standing space for a further 50. An organist is present to play requested hymns or music of your choice. A modern computerised music system can provide almost any music requested and a facility can be utilised to record or live webcast the service.
